Getting your wheels refurbished

We all like to have nice, clean cars and alloy wheels are often one of the hardest things we find to look after. Not only do they get covered in grime from the road and brake dust but they can also easily become scuffed, damaged and even corroded. If this happens you will either need to replace them or you may be able to refurbish them. Many places offer this service, some will refurbish the wheels and keep the car in whilst doing it, others may ask you to remove the wheels and send them into them. This will only be possible if you have somewhere you can store the car on a ramp or have space wheels that can be fitted on in the meantime.
There are a few methods of refurbishing alloy wheels – such as sandblasting. The wheel is always removed from the vehicle, often then the wheel is chemically stripped down and it can then be inspected for damage such as cracks. The mechanic will repair any damage such as cracks or chips in the wheel and then sandblast it clean. Usually, the wheel will then undergo a process of priming, painting and lacquering to get the wheel back to the correct colour.
