The BMW i8

BMW’s striking new car, the i8, sets the benchmark for petrol/ electric hybrid vehicles. With incredible fuel economy combined with supercar performance and styling, it’s an amazing engineering achievement and points the way for other manufacturers. The futuristic body work combines a mixture of super light carbon fibre and plastic panels to keep weight down to a minimum, and this car certainly stands out from the crowd. On paper, the i8’s 1.5 litre turbocharged 3 cylinder engine seems a little underwhelming. However, combined with 129bhp electric motor, the hybrid power plant produces 357bhp in total, with 570nm of torque… not...

Handbrake worries

Leaving your car on a steep hill can sometimes be a worry. If the cars parking break should fail (and they can!) you could be faced with a runaway disaster. At the very least your car will suffer some damage and it could be a lot worse. A heavy vehicle can pick up speed pretty fast and cause major damage and be potentially lethal to pedestrians and other road users when it crashes. There are several steps you can take when parking to give you peace of mind alongside regular servicing of the vehicle. A quick test of your hand...

Fuel of the Future

Love the idea of an electric car but put off by the lack of range, long charge times and the weight of all those batteries? Well, Toyota may have the answer: Hydrogen fuel cells. And they’ve recently decided to share thousands of patents on their hydrogen fuel cell technology…for free! Cars powered by these fuel cells could offer increased range over their battery powered counterparts, with much faster refuelling, an abundant fuel source (hydrogen gas can be obtained from ordinary water) and best of all the only stuff coming from the exhaust is good old H2O. Of course there are...

There are a number of factors that can cause a car to underperform in wintery conditions and if you have a car that struggles in the wet, then you may want to consider the points below. Rear wheel drive cars are often worse in the winter than front or four wheel drive vehicles. This is something to consider when making you initial purchase. Tyres have a great effect on...

Will dealerships become...

For a number of years now there has been talks about dealerships becoming redundant as more people are searching and buying car online. With the likes of auction sites such as Ebay, people are getting used to buying cars without having actually seen them in the flesh. I personally think that there will always be a large number of people that do want to see a car and test drive it before buying, especially when it comes to new models. Plus many people say they go to a dealership for the whole experience they receive and that that is a...

The new Hyundai ix25 re...

Hyundai have recently released pictures of the new ix25 model that they are going to be selling in 2015. The Hyundai ix25 is a supermini-sized SUV, and it comes as no surprise that they have decided to manufacture one as up until now they do not have a small SUV in their range. The styling is very much based on that of the Hyundai’s larger ix35 which was first launched in August 2013. The new ix23 has already received great reviews from those lucky enough to get an early test drive of the car. The great thing about Hyundai’s,...
